The Wichita Fire Department Honor/Color Guard is comprised of seventeen members, including one Unit Commander and two Lieutenant Commanders. Of these seventeen members, sixteen are active firefighters the seventeenth member is retired from the Wichita Fire Department. The Honor/Color guard has been active since 1983. We are supported through a partnership between the Wichita Firefighters Relief Association, IAFF Local #135, and the Wichita Fire Department. Our equipment includes: chrome head axes, chrome head pike poles, four ceremonial flags- (US, State, Departmental & Union) with adjustable poles and harnesses. This unit is professional and polished. One member is available to perform the TAPS and another member is skilled in singing the National Anthem. We hold regular meetings, participate in various parades each year, assist in arranging and participating in funerals for retired fire department members, and line of duty deaths around Kansas. We are very active in the Kansas Fallen Firefighter Memorial; we also support and attend the IAFF National Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs, Colorado. When called upon we are available to promote the Wichita Fire Department in public appearances. We also provide a wedding service to active members of the fire department. The Wichita Fire Department Honor/Color Guard is registered with the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation; we show our respect for other Fire Department a (Nation wide) line of duty deaths by sending our personal sympathy cards.
